About
Ann Hraychuck has just completed 32 years
of public service with the Polk County
Sheriff’s Department. She was initially hired
by Polk County in 1971 under a federal CETA
grant for young adults from low-income
families. In 1973, Ann was hired by the
Sheriff’s Department as a secretary and was
promoted to Jailer/Dispatcher and then to a
Sensitive Crimes Investigator in 1984. After 18
years as an Investigator, Ann was elected to
her first term as the Sheriff of Polk County in
2001 and re-elected in 2003. She was one of two
female sheriffs in the State of Wisconsin.
Throughout her extensive law
enforcement career, Ann has always strived to
excel in every position that she has held in
the Sheriff’s Department. She was
instrumental in the implementation of
committees and task forces that dealt with such
critical issues as child abuse, domestic
violence, sexual assault, homicide, drug abuse,
teen deaths in traffic crashes, and elder
abuse. During the 18 years that Ann was a
Sensitive Crimes Investigator, she became a
certified instructor for the WI Department of
Justice, training police officers throughout WI
in the techniques of investigating child abuse,
domestic violence, sexual assault, and homicide
cases.
Ann is the recipient of a
multitude of commendations from local, state,
and national law enforcement agencies,
prosecutors, and child advocacy organizations
for her work in the sensitive crimes arena. In
1991, she received a Medal of Valor for
rendering aid to a fellow officer who had been
shot.
Over the past 32 years, Ann has
served on numerous county, state, and national
committees. As Sheriff, she was selected by
Governor Doyle to serve on the WI Radio
Interoperability Homeland Security Council, the
WI Sentencing Guidelines Commission, and the
Violence Against Women Advisory Board.
In February and March of 2005, Ann
testified before Senate and Assembly
committees, at the State Capitol, regarding the
impact of the methamphetamine epidemic in
northwestern Wisconsin.
In March of
2005, Sheriff Ann received national recognition
through an appointment by US Senator Russ
Feingold to the Federal Nomination Commission,
which made recommendations to our US Senators
and President Bush for candidates to fill the
US Attorney’s position for the Western
District of WI.
Also in March of 2005,
Sheriff Ann was nominated to the Unity High
School Wall of Honor, which recognizes alumni
for their life achievements and community
contributions.
Ann lives near Balsam
Lake with her 16 year old stepson, Davey, and
husband, retired Frederic Chief of Police David
Hraychuck. Ann, David, and Davey are all avid
sportsmen and love to hunt and fish. Ann and
David are Hunter Safety Education instructors.
They have been involved in numerous volunteer
events that promote children and their
families, to include youth pheasant hunting
events, youth fishing contests, and the annual
Youth in the Outdoors Day. They chair the
annual Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities
through the Polk County Sportsmen’s Club. Ann
has just completed a term as the President of
the Polk County Sportsmen’s Club, the first
female to hold this position in the club’s
75-year history.
After a lifetime of law
enforcement, Ann Hraychuck wants to continue
serving the public as a State Assembly
Representative for the 28th District.
